A useful bridal shower invitation answers the questions guests will ask while looking at their calendars: who is being celebrated, what kind of gathering it is, when to arrive and how to reply. Choose the wording for your actual event, then let flowers, color and type make it feel personal.

These eight examples are original invitation copy. The names, venues, addresses and contact details in the completed examples are fictional. Replace them before sending. The first version uses brackets so you can see every field you need to fill.

Start with the [fill-in invitation](#bridal-invitation-fill-in), or choose [brunch](#bridal-invitation-brunch), [a couples shower](#bridal-invitation-couples), [no gifts](#bridal-invitation-no-gifts) or [a short text](#bridal-invitation-text). For gifts sent separately, use the [mailing details message](#wording-for-gifts-sent-by-mail).

## Eight invitation wording examples

### 1. A simple invitation you can fill in

Use this when the celebration has no particular theme. The food line can say lunch, brunch or light refreshments.

Please join us for a bridal shower celebrating [full name].

We will share [food format] and good wishes for the wedding ahead.

[Day, month date, year]
[Start time] to [finish time]
[Venue or host's home]
[Full street address, city and state]

Hosted by [host name or names].
Please reply to [contact] by [RSVP date] and tell us about any dietary needs.

### 2. A classic shower luncheon

This completed example suits a seated lunch. Naming the hosts makes it clear who can answer questions.

Lena Ortiz and Sam Patel invite you to a bridal shower in honor of Maya Reed.

Please join us for lunch, cake and an afternoon celebrating Maya.

Saturday, October 24, 2026
Noon to 2 p.m.
The Willow Room
24 Example Lane, Portland, Oregon

Please RSVP to Lena at lena@example.com by October 10, including any dietary needs.

### 3. A bridal shower brunch

Say brunch when you are serving a meal. If the plan is coffee and pastries, replace the food line with exactly that.

For a complete savory meal, the [quiche brunch plan](/stories/bridal-shower-brunch-ideas) has orders for eight, twelve or sixteen and a supplier confirmation sheet. Settle what you will serve before choosing the food line below.

Brunch for Maya, with the people she loves.

Join us for a bridal shower with coffee, a savory brunch and something sweet.

Saturday, October 24, 2026
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Lena's home
24 Example Lane, Portland, Oregon

Hosted by Lena Ortiz and Sam Patel.
Email lena@example.com by October 10 to RSVP and share any dietary needs.

### 4. A garden party bridal shower

Mention grass, steps or a weather change when they affect arrival. Avoid a vague dress code that leaves guests guessing what shoes will work. The [garden party bridal shower plan](/stories/garden-party-bridal-shower) connects this wording to the seating and lunch arrangements.

An afternoon in the garden for Maya Reed.

Please join us for a bridal shower with lunch, flowers and time together.

Saturday, October 24, 2026
Noon to 2 p.m.
Lena's garden
24 Example Lane, Portland, Oregon

Choose shoes comfortable on grass. We will use the dining room if it rains.

Hosted by Lena Ortiz.
RSVP to lena@example.com by October 10. Please include dietary needs or access questions.

### 5. A couples wedding shower

Include both names and address each invitation to the people invited. "Couples shower" names the people being celebrated; it does not automatically give every guest a plus-one.

Let's celebrate Maya Reed and Alex Chen.

Join us for a wedding shower with lunch and good wishes for their life together.

Saturday, October 24, 2026
Noon to 2 p.m.
The Willow Room
24 Example Lane, Portland, Oregon

Hosted by Lena Ortiz and Sam Patel.
Please reply to lena@example.com by October 10 with the names of those attending and any dietary needs.

### 6. An afternoon tea shower

Be specific about the food. Tea, sandwiches and small cakes describe an afternoon tea more usefully than an elaborate theme name.

Tea and good wishes for Maya Reed.

You are invited to a bridal shower with tea, finger sandwiches and little cakes.

Saturday, October 24, 2026
2 to 4 p.m.
Lena's home
24 Example Lane, Portland, Oregon

Hosted by Lena Ortiz.
Please RSVP to lena@example.com by October 10 and let us know about any dietary needs.

### 7. A celebration without gifts

Agree on this wording with the honoree. Calling it a bridal celebration can help guests understand the plan; keep the no-gifts line direct and leave registry information out.

A bridal celebration for Maya Reed.

Come share brunch and a happy afternoon before the wedding.

Saturday, October 24, 2026
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Willow Room
24 Example Lane, Portland, Oregon

Please come without a gift. We are looking forward to time together.

Hosted by Lena Ortiz and Sam Patel.
RSVP to lena@example.com by October 10, with any dietary needs.

### 8. A short text invitation

A text message can carry the full invitation for a small gathering. Keep the address and RSVP method in the message so guests can find them later.

Hi! Join us for Maya Reed's bridal shower brunch on Saturday, October 24, 2026, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lena's home, 24 Example Lane, Portland, Oregon. Please reply to this message by October 10 and mention any dietary needs. Hosted by Lena and Sam. We'd love to see you!

## Put these details on the invitation

Settle the guest list, willing host contributions and gift-opening preference before editing the invitation. The [bridal shower etiquette decisions in our planning checklist](/stories/bridal-shower-planning-checklist#settle-bridal-shower-etiquette-as-practical-decisions) keep those agreements with their task owners. The examples here turn the agreed plan into a complete message guests can use.

| Detail | What the guest needs | Example |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Occasion and honoree | Bridal shower, wedding shower or bridal celebration, with the preferred name | A bridal shower for Maya Reed |
| Who is invited | Named recipients; clarify partners or children if needed | Address the message to the invited people, not an unspecified household |
| Date and time | Full date, start and finish; time zone for an online event | Saturday, October 24, 2026, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. |
| Location | Venue or host, street address, city and any room number | The Willow Room, 24 Example Lane, Portland, Oregon |
| Food format | Brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or light refreshments | Brunch and coffee will be served |
| Reply | One named contact, one method and a deadline | Email Lena by October 10 |
| Useful extras | Access, weather, gifts and clothing only when relevant | Garden seating; we will move indoors if it rains |

Keep long driving directions in a follow-up message. A guest should be able to recognize the invitation's essentials without opening three links.

## Add a short details message when needed

Send practical information in the same thread or on one linked details page. Use only the lines that match your gathering:

- **Registry:** "If you would like the registry details, Maya has shared them here: [link]." Confirm the honoree wants this included and check the destination.
- **Access:** "There are two steps at the front entrance. Please contact Lena about the step-free side entrance." Describe an actual route; do not promise access you have not checked.
- **Invited children:** "The children named on your invitation are very welcome." Use the same guest list when counting food and seats.
- **Weather update:** "We are moving lunch indoors at the same address. The start time is unchanged." State the change rather than making guests interpret the forecast.

## Wording for gifts sent by mail

If the honoree would prefer gifts shipped to a separate address, agree on that plan before adding a mailing note. The shower venue and the gift-delivery address may be different. Keep a home delivery address in a direct reply rather than a public invitation link.

A short details message could say:

> If you would like to send a gift ahead, please contact [host name] at [contact method] for the preferred delivery address. We will celebrate at [shower venue]; please use that address only for attending the shower.

If there is a registry, add the confirmed registry link to the same private reply and check which delivery address it uses. Do not promise a delivery date on a retailer's behalf. For a no-gifts celebration, leave the registry and mailing note out; use the [no-gifts invitation](#bridal-invitation-no-gifts) instead.

## When should bridal shower invitations go out?

[Paperless Post suggests sending bridal shower invitations six to eight weeks ahead](https://www.paperlesspost.com/blog/when-to-send-out-bridal-shower-invites/), allowing extra notice for guests who need to travel. Use that as a starting window, then fit the invitation and RSVP dates around your actual arrangements. A short save-the-date message can share a settled date while the remaining details are being confirmed.

Work backward from the first deadline that needs a final guest count. Ask the venue, food supplier and any rental provider for their cutoff dates before choosing the RSVP deadline. Leave time to contact missing replies and check names, food needs and seats before that first cutoff.

The example below keeps **Saturday, October 24, 2026**, and the **October 10 RSVP date** used in the completed wording examples above. It assumes a fictional supplier needs the final food count on **Wednesday, October 14**. The four-calendar-day interval between RSVP and supplier dates gives this host two follow-up days and a separate checking day; use your own supplier's deadline to build the same sequence.

Planning point

Date in this example

Time before the shower

What the host does

Shower

Saturday, October 24

Event day

Use the start and finish times from the chosen invitation.

Supplier's final count

Wednesday, October 14

10 days

Submit the agreed food order by the supplier's actual cutoff time.

Check the complete order

Tuesday, October 13

11 days

Reconcile confirmed names, complete alternative meals and the seat count.

Follow up on missing replies

Sunday, October 11, and Monday, October 12

13 and 12 days

Contact the named invitees individually and record each response in the same list.

Guest RSVP deadline

Saturday, October 10

14 days

Collect replies through the one contact method printed on the invitation.

Main invitation window

Saturday, August 29, to Saturday, September 12

56 to 42 days, or eight to six weeks

Send the checked invitation; give travelers earlier notice where needed.

For printed invitations, schedule proof approval, printing and delivery before the sending window, using the provider's estimates. For a digital invitation, open the exact version guests will receive and test its reply method before sending.

On October 11, a follow-up could say: "Hi [name], I am confirming the food order for Maya's shower on Saturday, October 24. Could you let me know by Monday, October 12, whether you can join us, including any food needs? Thank you." This follows up with someone already invited; it does not expand the guest list. Our [bridal shower planning checklist](/stories/bridal-shower-planning-checklist) keeps replies and the resulting orders together.

Give guests a clear way to answer. [Emily Post's invitation guidance](https://emilypost.com/advice/invitation-etiquette) asks guests to use the response method specified and reply by the stated deadline. A named contact and one reply channel make that easier.

## Check the version you will actually send

Replace every example detail, including the reserved example.com email addresses. Check the weekday against the date, read the full address aloud, and test the RSVP or registry link. Then ask someone who has not planned the shower to read it: can they tell who is invited, what they will eat, when they should arrive and how they should reply?

Send a preview to the honoree and any cohosts before distributing it. Their approval should cover the guest list and practical information as well as the words at the top.
