Baby shower invitation wording needs the honoree's name, the kind of gathering, its date and time, a full location, and a clear way to reply. Add the food format and any practical detail that changes a guest's plans.

The nine examples below are original copy for different kinds of showers. **Every name, address, email and joining link is fictional.** Copy one, replace the details and send it to the honoree or honorees for a final check. The examples describe proposed gatherings, not events we have hosted.

For a quick start, choose the [short text message](#a-short-text-message), [brunch wording](#a-baby-shower-brunch) or [online invitation](#a-virtual-baby-shower). If the family wants an optional book request, the [three insert choices and A4/Letter downloads](#ask-for-a-book-only-if-it-is-welcome) are together below. Leave that extra request out of a no-gifts invitation.

Use a **Copy invitation** button when shown, paste the example into your own message and replace the details there. If copying is blocked, select the wording manually. The page supplies text; your own message is where you check the final names, date, link and recipient before sending.

## Choose the invitation that matches your plans

Choose by what guests will do, rather than by how formal the card looks.

- For a seated afternoon gathering, use the [simple shower](#a-simple-afternoon-shower).
- If it replaces breakfast or lunch, use the [brunch invitation](#a-baby-shower-brunch).
- To celebrate two named people, use the [couples or coed shower](#a-couples-or-coed-baby-shower).
- For flowers and a shared table, use [Baby in Bloom](#a-baby-in-bloom-invitation).
- For a small group receiving the details by phone, use the [text message](#a-short-text-message).
- For other formats, choose the [no-gifts celebration](#a-baby-celebration-without-gifts), [sprinkle](#a-small-baby-sprinkle), [virtual shower](#a-virtual-baby-shower) or [drop-in afternoon](#a-drop-in-baby-shower).

## Nine baby shower invitation examples

### A simple afternoon shower

This version names one honoree and describes afternoon refreshments. Use the person's preferred name; there is no need to add a family role to make the invitation complete.

<blockquote data-copy-template>

<p>Please spend the afternoon with Avery as we celebrate the baby on the way. Tea, sandwiches and cake will be served.</p>

<p>Hosted by Morgan Reed.<br />Please email morgan@example.com by October 25 to let us know whether you can come, and mention any food or access needs.</p>
</blockquote>

### A baby shower brunch

This wording works for eight, twelve or sixteen guests without putting the total on the invitation. Count the actual replies privately. Our [baby shower brunch menus](/stories/baby-shower-brunch-menu) provide separate quantities for those group sizes.

<blockquote data-copy-template>
<p>Brunch before baby's arrival</p>

</blockquote>

### A couples or coed baby shower

Naming both honorees is more useful than relying on “couples” or “coed” alone. Address the invitation to each invited person. Those labels do not mean that guests must arrive as couples or that an unnamed partner is automatically included.

<blockquote data-copy-template>
<p>Avery and Robin's baby shower</p>
<p>Friends and family, come celebrate Avery Ellis and Robin Park over lunch. There will be cake, a short toast and an afternoon together before their new arrival.</p>
<p>Sunday, November 8, 2026<br />Noon to 2 p.m.<br />The Example Room<br />37 Example Lane, Richmond, Virginia</p>
<p>Hosted by Morgan Reed and Jamie Lane.<br />Please send your reply to morgan@example.com by October 25. Include the names of those attending from your invitation and any food or access needs.</p>
</blockquote>

### A Baby in Bloom invitation

Let the theme supply one opening line, then keep the information easy to find. A floral invitation does not mean the event is outdoors; name the actual space. The [Baby in Bloom brunch plan](/stories/baby-in-bloom-brunch) uses a seated floral table and a separate buffet.

<blockquote data-copy-template>

<p>Savory tarts, fruit and little cakes will be served indoors.</p>
<p>Hosted by Morgan Reed.<br />RSVP to morgan@example.com by October 25, with any dietary or access needs.</p>
</blockquote>

### A short text message

Keep the address in the same message as the time. “Reply here” is useful when the sender will also keep the guest list; change it if someone else handles replies.

<blockquote data-copy-template>
<p>Hi! I'm hosting a baby shower for Avery Ellis on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at my home, 37 Example Lane, Richmond, Virginia. We'll have tea, sandwiches and cake. Can you join us? Please reply here by October 25 and tell me about any food or access needs. Morgan</p>
</blockquote>

### A baby celebration without gifts

Use this only when the honoree or honorees want a gathering without gifts. Calling it a baby celebration makes the format clear. Leave out registry links and additional requests for books or diapers, which would contradict this version.

<blockquote data-copy-template>
<p>An afternoon for Avery and Robin</p>
<p>Join us to celebrate Avery Ellis and Robin Park and the baby they are preparing to welcome. We would love your company over lunch and cake.</p>
<p>Sunday, November 8, 2026<br />Noon to 2 p.m.<br />Morgan's home<br />37 Example Lane, Richmond, Virginia</p>
<p>No gifts, please. There is nothing to bring; we are looking forward to seeing you.</p>
<p>Hosted by Morgan Reed.<br />Please reply to morgan@example.com by October 25 and include any dietary needs.</p>
</blockquote>

### A small baby sprinkle

A sprinkle is a name some families use for a shower for another child. [Emily Post describes showers and sprinkles for later children](https://emilypost.com/advice/baby-showers-party-and-invitation-timing); the choice of name and format belongs with the people being celebrated. Do not assume they have everything they need, want fewer guests, or expect a particular gift.

Before adapting the invitation, use the [baby sprinkle planning guide](/stories/baby-sprinkle-ideas) to agree on the family’s needs, gift preference, helpers and schedule.

<blockquote data-copy-template>
<p>A small baby sprinkle for Avery and Robin</p>
<p>Avery Ellis and Robin Park are welcoming another baby, and we are gathering for a short afternoon of cake, coffee and conversation.</p>

<p>Hosted by Morgan Reed.<br />Please let Morgan know whether you can come at morgan@example.com by October 25. Food and access questions are welcome.</p>
</blockquote>

### A virtual baby shower

State the time zone in the invitation, even if most guests live nearby. Replace the example link with the actual joining instructions, including the platform, meeting ID or passcode when required. Check the link using a guest's access permissions before sending.

Plan the actual date, each guest's local time and a backup way to join with the [virtual baby shower hosting guide and time-zone planner](/stories/virtual-baby-shower-ideas). Use its schedule and connection rehearsal to confirm the practical details before adapting this invitation.

<blockquote data-copy-template>
<p>A baby shower from wherever you are</p>
<p>Join Avery Ellis and Robin Park online for conversation, one short game and a toast to their new arrival. Bring a drink you enjoy; no other supplies are needed.</p>

<p>Hosted by Morgan Reed.<br />RSVP to morgan@example.com by October 25. Contact Morgan if you would like help joining or need another way to take part.</p>
</blockquote>

Choose an activity that supports the invitation's promise. If you select a game requiring printed cards, provide them and change the “no other supplies” line. Our [baby shower games guide](/stories/baby-shower-games) can help you compare materials before choosing.

### A drop-in baby shower

An arrival window is different from a shared start time. Use this version only if the room and refreshments can support people arriving throughout it. Do not schedule a single essential activity that late arrivals will miss.

<blockquote data-copy-template>
<p>Stop by to celebrate Avery</p>
<p>We are having a drop-in baby shower for Avery Ellis. Come for tea, cake and a chat any time between 2 and 4 p.m.; you are welcome to stay for a short visit.</p>

<p>Hosted by Morgan Reed.<br />Please email morgan@example.com by October 25 with whether you can come and your likely arrival time, if you know it. Let Morgan know about any food or access needs.</p>

## Keep six blocks of information together

The brunch example can be arranged in the following order. These are content blocks, not rules about fonts or card size. When adapting a design, keep the reply details legible rather than shrinking them to fit an extra decorative line.

## Add only the details your guests need

Agree on these choices with the honoree or honorees before adding them:

- **Who is invited:** Name the recipients on the envelope or message. If children are invited, name them or clearly describe the family invitation. Do not rely on a theme or the word “coed” to define the guest list.
- **Registry:** If the family wants it shared, a direct line such as “Avery and Robin's registry, for anyone who would like it: [link]” is enough. Replace the bracketed field with the approved destination. A registry link is not a condition of attending.
- **Gift opening:** If useful, write “We will save unwrapping for later so there is more time to visit.” Include that only when it is the agreed plan; a shower does not need a surprise schedule.
- **Access or arrival:** Describe the route you have checked, such as “Please use the side entrance on Example Lane.” Offer a contact for questions rather than claiming a space is suitable for everyone.
- **Personal details:** The baby's name, sex, expected arrival date and the family's private circumstances do not need to be printed. Let the family decide what to share.

A photograph or floral heading can make the invitation personal without adding more information. For a gathering that includes [printable baby shower bingo](/stories/baby-shower-bingo-printable), prepare the cards as part of hosting; guests do not need to receive the game's rules with the invitation.

## Ask for a book only if it is welcome

**Books for baby wording** works best as a separate, optional request. Ask the family whether a book collection would be useful before putting it in the invitation. A book is still a gift, including when you suggest it instead of a greeting card; keep a no-gifts message clear if that is the family's actual preference.

The three original inserts below welcome a book the guest already owns or a gently loved copy, and make attendance without a book explicit. They do not require an inscription, a purchase or another gift. Add a format, language or duplicate-check preference only when the family actually asked for it; resolve that detail in your personal message rather than treating every book collection as the same.

### A simple optional book request

<blockquote id="books-optional-book" data-books-insert="optional-book"><p>If you would like to bring a book, choose one you enjoy. A book you already own or a gently loved copy is welcome. Please join us with or without a book; we are looking forward to your company.</p></blockquote>

### A book instead of a greeting card

<blockquote id="books-instead-of-card" data-books-insert="instead-of-card"><p>If you would enjoy sharing a book instead of a greeting card, a favorite from your own shelf or a gently loved copy would be lovely. Bringing a book is entirely optional; please celebrate with us either way.</p></blockquote>

### A favorite story with an optional personal note

<blockquote id="books-favorite-story" data-books-insert="favorite-story"><p>If you would like to share a favorite story, an already-owned or gently loved book would be welcome. You may add a short note inside if you wish, or leave the book as it is. Please come with or without a book; sharing the day matters most.</p></blockquote>

Choose one wording and the paper loaded in your printer. Each PDF has **four identical 3 × 4 inch inserts** (7.62 × 10.16 cm) on one sheet; the body uses 12 pt text. The six files are paper and wording choices for one resource. These are **static print-and-cut PDFs**, without editable fields or a name line to complete.

<figure class="content-diagram">
  <img src="/images/diagrams/books-for-baby-inserts-preview.png" width="1224" height="1584" loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="Actual US Letter PDF page containing four identical optional book-request inserts with thin cutting borders and a one-inch calibration line." />

</figure>

Print one test sheet at **100% or Actual Size**, with Fit scaling off. The calibration line must measure 1 inch (2.54 cm). Cut one insert on its thin outer border and check that it fits the real envelope beside the invitation before printing the batch. For ten invitations, three sheets provide twelve inserts; the two extras do not change who is invited. Paper, ink and printer margins need your own check; no physical printer has been tested.

Keep the main invitation's date, place and reply details readable even if someone leaves out this extra insert. After the gathering, use the [personal thank-you notes and private tracker](/stories/baby-shower-thank-you-wording) to acknowledge what people actually gave or did.

## When to send a baby shower invitation

Published advice varies. [Emily Post suggests three to six weeks before the shower](https://emilypost.com/advice/baby-showers-party-and-invitation-timing), while [Paperless Post suggests six to eight weeks](https://www.paperlesspost.com/blog/when-to-send-baby-shower-invites/) and allowing extra time for mailed invitations. These are planning guides, not a single compulsory deadline.

Set the date with the honoree or honorees first. Then allow for guests' travel, postal delivery if used, and the date your venue or food supplier needs a final count. Guests traveling farther may benefit from an earlier save-the-date once the date is confirmed.

The examples use an **October 25 reply deadline for a November 8 gathering**, leaving fourteen days for follow-up and final arrangements. That is an illustrative choice. Move the deadline if your ordering commitments require more notice, and leave time to contact people whose replies are missing.

Before sending, read the invitation as a guest: can you tell whether to eat beforehand, when to arrive, where to go and how to answer? Check the weekday, every name and the destination of every real link. For an online gathering, confirm the time zone and joining instructions separately.

If you choose an optional diaper drawing, add a separate [diaper raffle insert](/stories/diaper-raffle-wording) with the free-entry rule stated plainly. Keep the main invitation useful for every guest, whether they bring a gift or not.

## Sources and file checks

The nine invitation examples and three optional book-request inserts are original proposed wording. The book PDFs contain four identical 3 by 4 inch inserts per sheet, with 12 pt body text and vector cut borders. All six final A4/Letter pages were independently checked for text, dimensions, bounds and calibration, then rendered and visually inspected. They are static PDFs, not editable forms. No physical printer or real gathering has been tested.
